Welcome to Year 3!
Langwarrin Park Primary School
Our team for 2021 is Mrs. Cooper and Ms. Love (3/22), Ms. Smith (3/23), Mrs. Thompson (3/24), Mrs. Rose (3/25). A variety of other staff will be working with your child across a range of specialist programs.
We are all very excited to be back at school for another year of learning and can’t wait to get to know the wonderful students we will be working with this year. Being in Year 3 will be a very exciting and busy time for your child. This year we will focus on consolidating and extending your child’s understandings and helping them to grow into versatile and enthusiastic learners. Furthermore, we will have a strong focus on developing students who are resilient and emotionally equipped to deal with life both in and out of the classroom environment. Students will learn at their own level and with their individual needs catered for within each classroom.

Due to the current COVID restrictions, parents are unable to help in the classroom. We look forward to welcoming you back when restrictions are lifted.
At Langwarrin Park Primary School we acknowledge that students learn best when they have the ongoing support and involvement of their family. We look forward to working together to achieve maximum academic and social growth for your child throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.
Another form of communication used at LLPS is Class Dojo. Teachers will use this method to pass on important messages and reminders. Class Dojo is designed to promote positive and open two-way communication between home and school. If you have any concerns please use Class Dojo to contact your teacher. We thank you for your support in this matter. It is important to note that teachers will only check and respond to Class Dojo messages between 8.30am and 4.30pm on school days, and may not check messages during school hours due to teaching commitments.
DAILY 5/ READING CAFE
The DAILY 5 and CAFÉ programs are the key components of the reading curriculum at Langwarrin Park Primary School. CAFÉ is an acronym for COMPREHENSION, ACCURACY, FLUENCY and EXPANDING VOCABULARY. This term we will be focussing on building a love of reading and developing a range of comprehension skills.
This term we will be learning about Narrative Writing, including the planning, organisation, sentence structure, grammar and editing skills.
The Grade 3 Spelling Program is based around learning spelling rules that can be applied to unknown words. We use the SMART Spelling Strategy, which involves saying the word, understanding the meaning, analysing the sounds, remembering the word and being able to teach the word and rule to another person.
In Math, our focus will be on developing and improving each student’s understanding of basic mathematical concepts, as well as the thinking skills required to solve real life problems. Our focus this term will be on Number and Algebra.
During this term, students will be learning about Australia and its connections to neighbouring countries through a Geographical lens. In our unit on History, we will be learning about First Nations People.
Langwarrin Park Primary is committed to creating a healthy and safe environment for all members of our school community. We have collaborated with Elisabeth Murdoch College, Langwarrin Primary School, and Woodlands Primary School to create the Langwarrin Positive Education Network. As part of this partnership LLPS will be teaching a Positive Education Program throughout the school. The aim of this program is helping all students to reach their academic and personal potential through the provision of social skills and resilience. This program is based on the acronym THRIVE, which stands for TRY your best, be HEALTHY, RELATE well, get INVOLVED, live your VALUES, ENJOY positive emotions.
The importance of reading at home cannot be underestimated. Every child needs to read to an adult each night and be able to answer simple questions about the text. Please record your reading on the Home Reading Record sheet at the back of your child’s homework book.
Students have spelling homework each week with an activity grid to complete over the term.
Students have access to PM Reading and Essential Assessment at home to enhance their learning. Passwords can be located in student’s homework books.
We encourage all students to bring a piece of fruit or some vegetables as well as a healthy snack and lunch each day. It is important that they bring their water bottle each day, as bubblers are not accessible at this time.
