Selamat Datang! (Welcome)

The LOTE (Language Other Than English) that is taught at Langwarrin Park Primary School is Bahasa Indonesia, the national language of Indonesia. Indonesia is one of Australia’s closest neighbours and has a population of over 260 million people.

Here at Langwarrin Park Primary School, Indonesian is taught through teacher instruction, language videos, songs and games. The Indonesian culture is a rich one and the students explore this through a range of topics including greetings, numbers, family, food, transport, around the school and around the home. Our students learn basic conversations as well as explore other aspects of the Indonesian culture.

Indonesian is taught once a week in 25 minute sessions from Foundation to Year 6. Studying the Indonesian language and learning about the Indonesian culture go hand in hand.

Why study Indonesia?

  • As Australia’s second closest neighbour and an ever-popular travel destination, Indonesia is a country all students will know of.
  • Bahasa Indonesia uses the same alphabet as the English language and is phonetic, this means that words can be sounded out once a student learns the initial sounds.
  • Indonesian is one of the easiest second languages to learn.
  • Indonesia has adopted many English words into their language.
  • Indonesia is taught at Elisabeth Murdoch College providing a pathway for students to continue learning this second language.
